Las Vegas Raiders newly hired head coach Josh McDaniels and his wife Laura went for a look-see but passed on the purchase of the home of ex-coach Jon Gruden and instead paid almost $5 million for another luxury home about six miles from the team’s headquarters.
The one-story, Santa Barbara-style home, in suburban Henderson, measures a tad more than 6,700 square feet with four bedrooms and six bathrooms, plus a couple of powder rooms. With about 1,000 square feet of covered patios, the home lives more like 7,700 square feet; the backyard has a pool and spa, a massive outdoor fireplace and a built-in barbecue tucked into a curtained poolside cabana.
Built in 2005, in the guard-gated Anthem Country Club community, the sprawling home sits on a more than a half-acre with panoramic golf course views. Inside are formal living and dining rooms, a movie theater, a billiard room with professional wet bar, and a home office. Built for entertainment, with a walk-in pantry, a butler’s pantry, and a breakfast nook, the high-end kitchen includes a lounge area with entertainment unit and huge double-sided rock fireplace.
Other highlights include honed-marble flooring, a three-car garage, and a Sonos surround sound system with iPad interface and indoor and outdoor speakers.
The listing was held by Kristen Routh-Silberman, a partner with Corcoran Global Living; McDaniels was represented in the deal by Michael Mair of eXP Realty.
So the stories go, McDaniels toured Gruden’s two-story home in the Southern Highlands development, just to the west of Anthem Country Club. That home, which was built in 2020, measures almost 8,700 square feet and is next door to the home of Raiders’ quarterback Derek Carr, was sold in March for just over $7 million, along with a neighboring vacant lot. Gruden, who now resides in Tampa with his wife Cindy, resigned in October following reports that detailed his use of racist, misogynistic and homophobic comments in emails over the years.
