Pioneer DJ unveiled a new DM series of budget monitor speakers. While they do have ‘DJ’ written on them, that’s literally everything DJ-specific about them. So if you are a producer or content creator looking for bargain monitors, these start at EUR 179 / pair. I’m not saying you can’t get cheaper, but you never want to go dirt-cheap with speakers, mics, and headphones – unless you want to sound bad on purpose!

The Pioneer DJ DM series has three models – 4-inch (DM-40D, EUR 179), 4-inch with Bluetooth (DM-40D-BT, EUR 199), and 5-inch with Bluetooth (DM-50D-BT, EUR 269). The 5-incher is almost identical to the DM-50D, which Pioneer released last year – but it comes with Bluetooth now.

The 5-inch model has 19mm soft dome tweeters and several connection options: TRS 6.3mm jack, 3.5mm mini jack socket, RCA, and Bluetooth 5.0 inputs. The newly presented 4-inch models (DM-40D and DM-40D-BT) have all that except the TRS 6.3mm inputs and the DM-40D lacks Bluetooth.

In addition, all new models have a switch on the back. This is used to switch between ‘DJ’ and ‘Producer’ mode. DJ mode boosts bass and additional frequency correction is applied to optimize the speaker outputs for a typical club setting. The latter turns to a flat frequency response.

All in all, the Pioneer DJ speakers look well-built (at least visually) and offer a robust set of connections considering the size and price. I assume they’ll sell well among budget and entry-minded buyers They’lll also prove themselves good little helpers to anyone in need of an inexpensive pair of speakers.

All models are available now in Black or White at the following prices per pair:
